David Whiteing

Record:

Played 63: Won 32, Lost 24, Drawn 7

Strengths & Weaknesses:

One of the founders and figureheads of the Hemisphere Cup, who has taken on most of the organisational responsibilities associated with this great event. To his credit this does not appear to have affected his game. With great dedication and application he is constantly refining his game, yet strangely lacks the touch of a great putter. David has nothing but contempt for tricked up target golf courses and is constantly on the lookout for new and challenging links venues to stage the event. His lifelong dream is to land a sponsorship and television deal to underwrite the event. He looks forward to the annual ritual of anticipating who might be his singles opponent, only to be drawn against the Northern Hemisphere captain.

Opposing Captains View:

Having played and lost to David at singles every year, I can vouch for either his strength or my lack of bottle. The best record of any cup player is under threat this year as the arrival of his son on Christmas day may upset his long hours of practice (only Padraig Harrington practices more!). David is already hoping that Angus will make his cup debut in 2005.
