14^th Hemisphere Cup – Castletown Golf Club, Isle of Mann

The 14^th Hemisphere Cup will be played at Castletown Golf Club, Isle of Mann on the 16^th and 17^th May, 2013. The match will be played over three rounds on the island’s premier course.

Castletown Golf Links is a unique championship golf course situated on the Langness Peninsula in the Isle of Man, surrounded by the Irish Sea on all three sides

Castletown Golf Links is unique, in that we have views of the Irish Sea from all tee's and fairways. We also have our very own "Road Hole". The hole measures 423 yards with a left-to-right shaped fairway and all the terrain running to the out of bounds road. With a fabulous bank of yellow gourse (in Spring time) down most of the left-hand side of the fairway, there is nowhere to escape to. Picking your spot for your drive is not for the faint hearted.

The par 4, 421 yard, 17th runs along the top of the cliff edge. This hole is called "the Gully". Over the last few million years the rain, wind and sea have bitten a chunk out of the fairway that nature intended for this hole, leaving a 200 yard carry to reach safety from the tee. Rated by Henry Longhurst as one of the best holes in golf.

The 18th is a classic finishing hole. For the drive you have to aim at the middel of the hotel, but beware of the three pot bunkers on the left side of the fairway. The second shot is played to a very generous green but, with the wind, bunkers and the Irish Sea all in play, the target seems much smaller.

The format of the event will be as normal with one round late on the Thursday afternoon and two rounds on the Friday with accommodation on the Thursday and Friday night. Accommodation will be somewhere on the island tbc.
